Challenge #149 - Masculine Birthday

Hello everyone, Brittany here to kick off the month of April by introducing you to our next challenge:

Masculine Birthdays!

We want to see your birthday projects for men and boys...cards, scrapbook pages, party decor, etc...anything that you're ready to create for the men in your life. Be sure to link your project to the linky below before Saturday, April 14th (11:55pm MST).

I ended up making two cards for this challenge - I am always in need of masculine cards, so I took advantage of this challenge to stock up!

Here I used the new Waterfront stamp from Stampin' Up because many of the men in my life are nature lovers, so this was a perfect set to create an outdoory scene.

I kept the next card a little more simple, you can never go wrong with balloons in more masculine colors. I used a three different stamp sets for this one - including the stripes to create the background piece since I didn't have coordinating paper :)

A masculine card and I'm extra proud of how I took a potty man sticker and

adjusted him to be sitting on the scooter with a helmet on!

For my Dad's 75th Birthday I decorated these containers with scrapbook paper, cardstock, and Thickers.

I went with a baseball themed stamp set because my husband absolutely loves baseball.

I started with a simple kraft cardstock background and crackled, colored cardstock. I have had the Tim Holtz Soda Bottle Blueprint Rubber Stamp (got on clearance at Hobby Lobby) for about a year now, and this was the perfect time to start using it. I used a Memento Dew Drop in Nautical Blue for the ink, then colored the star with a silver colored pencil. The last few details were a Stampin Up stamp from a long time ago with some silver embossing powder, a few enamel shapes and a touch of Wink of Stella glitter pen in a few areas.

Challenge #148 - Embossing

Welcome back to the Paper Girls Challenge Blog!  Michele here, and today I challenge you to use Embossing in your project.  Please use either heat embossing or dry embossing, maybe even both!  When I first started to stamp and do paper crafting, what really excited me was heat embossing.  Sadly I rarely pull out my supplies to emboss anymore, and I thought that might be true for many of us crafters. So I challenge you to get out that embossing folder or embossing powder and put them to use!

Challenge #148 - Embossing

Here's one of my favorite embossing projects. I heat embossed a background stamp with white embossing powder.  I then colored it with watercolors.

Guten Tag! My name is Maria Fischer and you might know me as maria f. or rieslingmama which is the name of my blog and Instagram.  I'm a Michigan gal but live  in German wine country! I've been making cards for over five years and although my style tends to be all over the place, my favorite cards are CAS ones. I love techniques too and used a couple variations on dry embossing for today's project.

My background panel was dry embossed, and then I gently sponged acrylic paint over the raised areas and around the edges. The smaller pink panel I dry embossed after painting some cardstock pink and giving it a few splatters of gold. And though not embossing, I used one more technique for the stamped image... coloring a rubber stamp with water-based markers and spritzing it with water before stamping!

For today's challenge, I finally got out my Topography stamp set from Neat and Tangled. I loved the possibilities with this, especially with my watercolors. The watercolors are the wonderfully opaque Kuretake Gansai Tambi paints. And the melon color of the cardstock picks up the very color from in the painted card.

I heat embossed this sunray stamp with clear embossing ink on a white card then used Distress Oxide Inks to color in the background.

I think one of my favorite techniques is the emboss resist technique.  I stamped my image with the Versamark ink, and heat embossed it with white embossing powder.  I used Stampin' Up ink and daubers to color in my image, as well as the background.  I also used black embossing powder on the sentiment. Karrie here in the midst of a crazy winter with blizzards, rainstorms, ice buildup and mud puddles!  Dreaming of getting away from it all again, I have chosen this fortnight's theme of

Challenge #146 - Black & White

Hi! It's Kristy, bringing you the newest challenge here on The Paper Girl's!  About 4 months ago, when I was working on another project for Paper Girls, I thought how fun would it be to do a Black and White Challenge?!?  Only black and white projects, a black and white photo, black and white with a little pop of color, generally black and white as the focal.  (Little did I know this would be a popular theme among the crafting world!!!)  

I love how you can take such a simple idea of Black and White and make such beautiful work.  

Help me welcome our Guest Designer for this challenge: Ruth Cunliffe

I've crafting for a long time and have to fit it in around a very busy work life and home life!  I live in the UK in Lancashire and I primarily colour with Promarkers and Watercolour pencils although I'm happy to be taken out of my comfort zone, every now and again!  I'm on a number of different design teams and also run my own challenge blog - the secret is lists - lots of lists to make sure I don't miss anything and to be organised and not leave anything to the last minute!

For my Guest Designer Project, I've used a Sizzix die plus white linen effect papers with black card behind for effect.  I handwrote the sentiment and layered everything up before adding to the card base with foam pads for extra depth.  

Here are the projects from the Paper Girls to help inspire you:

I used a B&W photo, B&W papers and titles, with a pop of red to offset the page.

Erica

I used a combination of die cuts and stamps to make this super simple B&W card.

For my HAPPY BIRTHDAY card I used an alphabet from Silhouette cut out of black cardstock and backed it with a black & white patterned paper. The Birthday and flowers are stamped.

Here is a second project, featuring my SENDING LOTS OF LOVE stamp set.  This card is simply stamped images on white cardstock, with a bit of water colour in the background.

MME Bloom was perfect for this challenge, and my page about my

21st Valentine's day with my Hub.

I white heat-embossed a large floral image on black cardstock. Once it was cooled, I added white goauche watercolor paint to create depth within the image. To finish it off, I added a simple sentiment.

I used some black and white lace paper and fabric flowers I've been holding onto for far too long for this 2-page layout of my friends wedding.

Challenge #145 - 6th Anniversary

Today our post is going up one day late but we did it on purpose. Do you want to know why? Because it is our Sixth Anniversary!! Time really has flown by. We have had many changes in our team but we are so happy to still have our Challenge blog going strong.

Since it is our Sixth Anniversary we thought the theme for this Challenge would be the number six. What we want you to do is to use six items of the same thing: ie six flowers, six buttons, six stamps, six gems... The list could go on and on.

But before we show off our projects, how about we talk about an extra special giveaway??
